Denney Goodhew

Denney Goodhew (* 1952 in Walla Walla ) is an American jazz musician who plays the saxophone, clarinet and flute, keyboard, drums and cello.

Goodhew studied classical piano with Jose Rambaldi and from 1968 to 1972 jazz music with Bill Cole at Whitman College . From 1974 to 1982 he taught saxophone and ensemble playing at the Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle . From 1993 to 1998 he taught composition, improvisation, ear training, ensemble playing, saxophone, singing and piano at the Berlin University of the Arts . He has taught at the Cornish College of the Arts since 1998 and is musical director of the Seattle Youth Jazz Ensemble . From 1980 to 2005 he also worked as a composer for the video producer CurrentRutledge .

Goodhew has performed and recorded as a sideman with numerous musicians, including Charlie Haden , Gary Peacock , Buster Williams , Dave Holland , Marc Johnson , Jimmy Garrison , Adam Nussbaum , Eddie Blackwell , Jon Christensen , Jack DeJohnette , Jeff Hamilton , Julian Priester , Etta James , Big Joe Turner , Billy Eckstine , Ernestine Anderson , Lou Rawls , Ed Ames , Dino Saluzzi , David Friedman , Terry Gibbs , Albert King , Robert Cray , Robben Ford , Bill Frisell , Gil Evans , Sam Rivers and Art Lande . He has performed in Japan, Taiwan and Israel, Germany, Poland and Norway and has appeared on more than 50 CDs. In 2002 he conducted the performance of his forty-minute composition New Moon Suite for Big Band at Benaroya Hall in Seattle.
