Volker Zschorlich (* 1955 ) is a German sports scientist and university professor .

Life

After graduating from high school in Oldenburg , Zschorlich completed a teaching degree in sports and German studies . He studied at the University of Oldenburg and the University of Osnabrück . This was followed by a doctoral degree in Oldenburg (graduation 1986), and he was also a research assistant at the Institute for Sports Science at the University of Oldenburg. After completing his habilitation in Oldenburg (graduation in 1995; subject: "System analysis of human movements"), he initially took over a professorship at the University of Rostock before taking up the professorship for movement science in 2000. He also became head of the Institute for Sports Science at the University of Rostock.

From 2001 to 2005 Zschorlich was a board member of the German Association for Sports Science (DVS) and from 1999 spokesman for the DVS Biomechanics section.

Zschorlich's research focuses in particular on biomechanical topics. His important publications in this regard include the articles “Fundamentals of Sport Biomechanics” (2003) and “Research Trends in Biomechanics” (2006). Among other things, he led research projects in the sports of cycling ("The investigation of the development of transverse forces during pedaling in cycling", 1995/1996; "Development of a biomechanical measuring station with immediate information for use in technical training in cycling", 1990/1991) Water jumping ("Fluid mechanics, biomechanical and training-scientific investigation of the formation of splashes during immersion in water jumping ”, 2001) and athletics (“ The analysis of speed fluctuations in the hurdle sprint ”, 1996–1998).
