The Volksbank Raiffeisenbank Dachau eG is a cooperative bank based in the Bavarian district town of Dachau . With around 350 employees, 20 branches in the city and district of Dachau , the state capital Munich and total assets of over 2 billion euros, it is one of the largest cooperative banks in Bavaria.

history

On May 16, 1913, the master painter Albin Huber founded the “Commercial Kassa Dachau and Surroundings” with 18 craftsmen and traders in the Birgmannbräu in Dachau . The forerunner of the Volksbank Raiffeisenbank Dachau eG implemented the idea of “helping people to help themselves” from the start based on the principles of Hermann Schulze-Delitzsch and Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen . The institute should be a self-help cooperative organization for accepting savings and extending loans to its members.

In 1919 it was renamed "Commercial and Agricultural Bank Dachau und Umgebung eGmbH". After meeting in the brick cellar at the beginning, bank rooms were rented in the property of the master shepherd Liepold, Pfarrstrasse 4. From 1921 to 1927 the bank was located at Gottesackerstraße 3 in the house of the lawyer Hermann Gleich; from 1927 to 1949 in the Schulmayr property, Augsburger Strasse 15.

Since 1938 the cooperative bank traded under the name “Volksbank Dachau”. The first bank building of its own was built in 1948 with the new building at Augsburger Strasse 35. In 1950, the first branch in Dachau was opened at Münchner Strasse 14, the former “Münchner Hof” inn . The hard work of the employees contributed to the growing success during the economic miracle. Thanks to a sustainable and down-to-earth business model, Volksbank Dachau has established itself as a bank for medium-sized companies. Board member Franz Haaser (1944–1968) became a defining figure. From 1952 a close-knit network of branches was established in the Dachau district. Another new building followed in September 1965 at Augsburger Strasse 33, which is still the bank's location today.

Mergers

In 1991 Volksbank Dachau merged with Raiffeisenbank Dachau. Since then it has operated under the name of “Volksbank Raiffeisenbank Dachau eG”. In 2001 the merger with the Raiffeisenbank Jetzendorf - Petershausen followed , and in 2003 with the Raiffeisenbank Altomünster .

When it merged with Raiffeisenbank Altomünster, its goods business was also taken over. In 2007 it was continued in VR AgrarCenter Wollomoos GmbH as a wholly owned subsidiary of Volksbank Raiffeisenbank Dachau eG. In 2013, the VR Agrar Center Wollomoos GmbH of Volksbank Raiffeisenbank Dachau eG merged with the agricultural trade of Raiffeisenbank Adelzhausen - Sielenbach . On July 1, 2013, VR Agrar Center Wittelsbacher Land GmbH emerged.

In March 2009, Germany's first cooperative bank museum was opened in the bank's own premises in the main office at Augsburger Strasse 33-35.
