Volkskammer election 1958
The election to the People's Chamber of the GDR in 1958 was the election to the 3rd People's Chamber of the GDR and took place on November 16, 1958 . It was a sham election . It could only be voted on the unified list of the National Front . The election did not affect the strength of the factions. Their size was determined in advance. The electoral law of the GDR allowed public control of the electoral count on paper. In practice, this did not take place for fear of repression.
Due to the four-power status of the city of Berlin, the 66 members of the East Berlin deputies were indirectly appointed by the East Berlin magistrate. The district elections in the GDR took place in 1958 together with the Volkskammer election .
Election result
According to official figures, the turnout was 98.90%. The National Front's nomination was approved by 99.87% and 0.13% of the votes were invalid.
