Volkskammer election 1981
The election to the People's Chamber of the GDR in 1981 was the election to the 8th People's Chamber of the GDR and took place on June 14, 1981 . It was a sham election . It could only be voted on the unified list of the National Front . The election did not affect the strength of the factions. Their size was determined in advance. The electoral law of the GDR allowed public control of the electoral count on paper. In practice, this did not take place for fear of repression.
Contrary to the four-power status of the city of Berlin, this election also took place in East Berlin .
Election result
According to official figures, the turnout was 99.21% with 12,255,006 votes cast and 12,352,263 registered voters. 2878 votes were considered invalid. Thus 99.86% approval (12,235,515 votes) were counted for the election proposal of the National Front, 16,613 people or 0.14% had therefore voted against it.
