Seats in the People's Chamber after the 1976 election

The election to the People's Chamber of the GDR in 1976 was the election to the 7th People's Chamber of the GDR and took place on October 17, 1976 . It was a sham election . It could only be voted on the unified list of the National Front . The election did not affect the strength of the factions. Their size was determined in advance. The electoral law of the GDR allowed public control of the electoral count on paper. In practice, this did not take place for fear of repression.

Due to the four-power status of the city of Berlin, the 66 members of the East Berlin deputies were indirectly appointed by the East Berlin magistrate.

Election result

According to official figures, the voter turnout was 11,262,946 votes and 11,425,194 registered voters were 98.58%. 2616 votes were considered invalid. Thus 99.86% approval (11,245,023 votes) was counted for the election proposal of the National Front, 17,923 people or 0.14% had therefore voted against it.
