Volkskammer election 1971
The election to the People's Chamber of the GDR in 1971 was the election to the 6th People's Chamber of the GDR and took place on November 14, 1971 . It was a sham election . It could only be voted on the unified list of the National Front . The election did not affect the strength of the factions. Their size was determined in advance. The electoral law of the GDR allowed public control of the electoral count on paper. In practice, this did not take place for fear of repression.
Due to the four-power status of the city of Berlin, the 66 members of the East Berlin deputies were indirectly appointed by the East Berlin magistrate.
Election result
According to official figures, the voter turnout was 99.85% with 11,227,535 votes cast and 11,401,090 registered voters. 3196 votes were considered invalid. Thus 99.5% approval (11,207,388 votes) were counted for the election proposal of the National Front, 20147 people or 0.5% had therefore voted against it.
