Seats in the People's Chamber after the 1950 election

The election to the People's Chamber of the GDR in 1950 (also popular election ) was the election to the 1st People's Chamber of the GDR and took place on October 15, 1950 . It was a sham election . It could only be voted on the unified list of the National Front . The election did not affect the strength of the factions. Their size was determined in advance. The electoral law of the GDR allowed public control of the electoral count on paper. In practice, this did not take place for fear of repression .

Due to the four-power status of the city of Berlin , the 66 members of the East Berlin deputies were indirectly appointed by the East Berlin magistrate . This led to the situation that six representatives of the SPD from the eastern part of the city were also represented in the People's Chamber. The SPD was banned in the Soviet Zone after the forced unification ; in Berlin, however , the SPD continued to exist . The six mandate holders became members of the Social Democratic Action loyal to the SED .

Election result

According to official figures, the turnout was 98.53%. The National Front election proposal was approved by 99.72% and 0.28% of the votes were invalid.
