In a kind of comedy show, the full playback theater (VPT) reproduces the sound of audio drama cassettes lip-synchronously as a play, without the actors speaking a word themselves. Quotes from other radio plays as well as from film, radio and television are incorporated into the sound template or completely different radio plays are cut together to form a new story. In 2012 the theater announced that it would go on a nationwide farewell tour. In 2013 there was a second farewell tour, after which the group briefly broke up.
In spring 2014 a comeback tour was announced for late 2014 and early 2015. Under the title Okay, but only with creaking! an adaptation of the film Pulp Fiction was brought to the stage. For the first time, the full playback theater did not use a radio play, but the audio track of a film as a template for a stage show.
So far, episodes of the popular radio play series Die drei ??? . But TKKG , Hanni and Nanni , Flash Gordon , Edgar Wallace , John Sinclair and Sherlock Holmes were also brought to the stage by the theater group .
history
The theater was founded in 1997 in Wuppertal . As part of the 2nd Wuppertal Theater Summer, the ensemble, made up of people from the independent Wuppertal cultural scene, presented the first production The three ??? and the secret of the coffins .
After various appearances in Wuppertal and the surrounding area, the full playback theater went with its second production The three ??? and the Super Parrot in May 1999 for the first time on a nationwide tour. After another The three ??? -Show, the full playback theater staged the stage version of a John Sinclair radio play for the first time in 2000 with The Leichenhaus der Lady L.
The show for The Three ??? - Island of the Dead , the 100th episode in the series The Three ??? , was created in cooperation with the radio play label Europe , the tour started at the same time as the release of the radio play. The following two productions had boarding school twins Hanni and Nanni as protagonists. In 2002, the show John Sinclair meets Hanni and Nanni - The Meeting of the Giants was shown at the opening of the twelfth Ruhr Festival in Recklinghausen.
Appearances at the Bochum Total , Rheinkultur- Nightshift and the Fusion Festival , which focus on rock, pop or electronic music, as well as a tour with Silvia Superstar, the singer of the Spanish punk band Killer Barbies , increased the popularity of the theater and consolidated it Status as an independent project in the pop culture underground.
Despite great national success and appearances in front of an average of 800 spectators in 80% sold-out halls, the full playback theater announced in 2012 that it would go on a farewell tour from September of that year. Almost 50 nationwide appearances were booked. The closing event in May 2013 was a performance of Die Drei ??? and the super parrot on the roof of a parking garage in Hamburg. This performance was broadcast live on the internet.
A comeback show of the full playback theater was announced for 2014/2015. After a few appearances, all dates were canceled from the end of January 2015 due to financial difficulties of the tour agency.
On September 15, 2015, the full playback theater announced a new stage show called a come-come-back-back tour , with reference to the canceled comeback tour . This production was on the way since December of the same year, followed by other tours.
In December 2017, the 20-year anniversary show tour started with over 60 appearances throughout Germany until May 2018.
Between February and April 2019, Das VPT was on the road across Germany with the show Sherlock Holmes and the League of Extraordinary Detectives .
From February 2020 the ensemble will go on tour again with the new show Heroes of the Galaxy .
