Volrad von Krempa (first name also Vollrad ; last name also Crempa ; † 1302 in Anagni ) was Bishop of Brandenburg from 1296 to 1302 .

Life

Volrad von Krempa belonged to the Holstein nobility. Its name of origin suggests the Holstein brim . The first written mention of Volrad is on October 27, 1273 as Canon of Lübeck . From April 13, 1276 to October 1, 1276 he was cathedral dean in Lübeck. As canon of Schwerin he was documented from August 17, 1280 to January 25, 1284. During his time as canon of Schwerin he was also provost of Bützow , as can be seen from a document dated August 17, 1280. From November 26, 1284 to September 5, 1292 he was Provost of Schwerin. In Lübeck, too, he was promoted to provost of the cathedral according to a document dated February 14, 1294. According to a document dated June 13, 1288, he was also archdeacon of Rostock .

During a stay at the Curia in Italy , Volrad von Krempa was appointed the new Bishop of Brandenburg by Boniface VIII on August 9, 1296 . According to a document, he is still in Rome on May 1, 1297 . He probably returned to Germany at the end of November 1297. On February 2, 1298 he was in Bautzen and in March of the same year in Magdeburg . At the end of 1298 he was together with Margrave Hermann at the Reichstag of King Albrecht I in Nuremberg . During his stay in Germany, Volrad von Krempa seems to have mostly stayed in Magdeburg. It was last documented in Magdeburg on May 3, 1301. Due to disputes with the margraves Otto IV and Konrad I about their bailiff rights and the duty of the spiritual subjects to take possession of the episcopal residence, he was not allowed to take possession of the episcopal residence. The bishops of Brandenburg and Havelberg occupied the Mark Brandenburg with the interdict , this must have happened before February 13, 1302. Volrad von Krempa referred this matter a second time to the papal court who was staying in Anagni . Between May 22nd, 1302 and September 14th, 1302 Volrad von Krempa died without having reached a decision in the dispute with the two margraves.

He appears as a co-exhibitor of indulgences for the cathedral of Magdeburg , for the cathedral of Halberstadt and the Sankt-Nicolai-Kirche in Oschersleben as well as for the Servite monastery Himmelgarten near Nordhausen .
