Volta à Terra ( Portuguese for, return to the (home) Earth ') is a documentary of the Portuguese director João Pedro Plácido from the year 2015 . Internationally, the work bears the title (Be) Longing .

action

Using the young cattle herder Daniel, the film shows life through the four seasons in rural Uz , a small town in the northern Portuguese community of Vilar de Cunhas .

The village, marked by emigration, is suffering from its dwindling and aging population, and modern life meets traditional traditions. The downfall of the previous lifestyle is sealed.

The simple life, characterized by hard work, contrasts with the soul life of the young Daniel, which on the one hand harmonizes with country life, on the other hand is shaped by longings. At the village festival, Daniel meets Daniela, who messes up his emotional world.

In addition, other people and their different views and feelings are shown, in particular the returning emigrant António.

reception

The film was first shown at the Doclisboa Film Festival on October 17, 2014 and had its cinema premiere in Portugal on July 9, 2015.
