There is no trace of the perpetrator in a German silent detective film from 1928 by Constantin J. David with Kurt Gerron , Hanni Weisse and Ernst Stahl-Nachbaur in the leading roles.

action

The crime story takes place in Germany today (1928). When the boss of an amusement park is murdered, his partner Hofer, with whom he often had an argument, and a stubborn admirer of his daughter, whom he recently even had to throw out of the house, come into the focus of the police investigation. There are no witnesses and many questions remain unanswered. Some leads turn out to be false or misleading, some suspects are innocent. The evidence speaks against business partner Hofer, but is he really guilty?

Apparently money and jewelry were also stolen. So was it a robbery and all the traces that have gone astray? Only an ominous junk dealer who has kept the stolen jewelry leads the criminal police on the trail of the real perpetrator: This is a criminal who has been convicted of a criminal record and who, after persistent persecution in the most intensive investigative work, can be caught and arrested by the police.

Production notes

There is no trace of the perpetrator was made in February 1928 in the UFA film studios in Potsdam-Babelsberg and was premiered on August 3, 1928 in Berlin's UFA-Palast am Zoo , and the film was also shown in Austria on November 23 of the same year.

Jacques Rotmil designed the film structures. Forensic advice came from Kriminalrat Dr. Niemann and Detective Inspector Müller.

criticism

Paimann's film lists summed up: “The plot is, although not original in its basic features, but quite exciting, in places almost a bit involved. The direction is meticulous and has a noteworthy tempo in the chase scenes. Some game scenes are less successful. The presentation is good, and so is the presentation if necessary. (...) Overall qualification: above average. "
