Volker "Voxi" Bärenklau (born December 1, 1960 in Sulzbach am Main ) is a German cameraman and lighting designer.

Life

He completed an art degree at the Offenbach am Main University of Design with Werner Nekes and Helmut Herbst . There he made the acquaintance of Christoph Schlingensief and has since worked on Schlingensief's film, theater and opera productions. These included The German Chainsaw Massacre in 1992 and The Last Hour in the Führerbunker in 1989, and in 2004 the controversial production of Wagner's Parsifal at the Bayreuth Festival Hall .

Later he met the comedian and jazz musician Helge Schneider , with whom he realized the film productions Jazzclub - The early bird catches the worm and 00 Schneider - Hunt for Nihil Baxter . In 2013, another joint film was released with 00 Schneider - In the tropics of the lizard .

In 1999, it came after a long collaboration with cinematographer Florian Ballhaus to action of Michael Ballhaus to cooperate in Martin Scorsese's film Gangs of New York in Rome as a gaffer ( Gaffer ).

Since the multi-part TV show Contergan for WDR , he has worked on other productions by Adolf Winkelmann . Since 2006 teaching assignments for light and image design at the FH Dortmund .
