Voxnan is a 150 km long river in the Swedish region of Hälsingland and the largest tributary of the Ljusnan .
The river has its source in Lake Siksjön in Härjedalen and is popular with canoeists in its upper course . Where the coast was shortly after the last Ice Age, in the border area of the municipalities of Ljusdal , Orsa and Ovanåker , the river forms one of the most striking rapids south of the Fjell Mountains. Then it meanders through a sandy heather and forms striking embankments. After about 2/3 of its length, the Voxnan turns east. Here the river is steep and largely developed.
To the southeast of Bollnäs , Voxnan flows into Lake Varpen and joins Ljusnan, which also flows through the Varpen.
The name Voxnan probably comes from the Swedish word for "grow" ( växa ), which refers to the frequent floods.
