Attractions

Storstupet

The biggest tourist magnet in the municipality is the town and mountain Grönklitt with a bear park and a winter sports facility with numerous downhill slopes. The bear park is a fenced area in which, in addition to various bears, other predators such as wolves , lynxes , wolverines , tigers and leopards are housed. Some of these animals are also native to the surrounding forests. The most famous "resident" is Wilbär, the young male polar bear born in Stuttgart's Wilhelma district, who was relocated to Polar World on May 15, 2009 .

Storstupet and Helvetesfallet ( Hellfall ) are two waterfalls in the course of the Ämån , about 20 kilometers from the main town Orsa . Both were adapted for rafting by blasting or building work . Storstupet is known for an impressive bridge over the Ämån on the inland railway .

The grindstone museum ( Slipstenmuseet ) is located at the entrance to the former mining area near Kallmora. The quarrying of sandstone for use as a grindstone was an important economic basis for the farmers in the region for many centuries. A small hiking trail, the museum and a photo exhibition at a restored quarry ( Lindågruvan ) give an impression of the earlier work.

The local history museum ( Hembygdsgård ) is an open-air museum in which various historical buildings from the area of Orsa municipality have been rebuilt. The site is accessible at all times. The historical workshops (dye works, forge, weaving mill) are opened and used on different days of the year. One of the largest midsummer celebrations in the region takes place here every year.
