Falun ( Swedish Falu kommun ) is a municipality in the Swedish province of Dalarna County and the historic province of Dalarna . The main town of the community is Falun .

geography

The city of Falun is located on Lake Runn , which forms the southern border of the municipality. The community extends about 65 kilometers to the north. The area is criss-crossed by Ice Age moraines , which form ridges, and wetlands and numerous lakes.

economy

Traditionally, Falun was a mining community . In 1992 the mine in Falun was finally closed, but the red color Falun red is still produced today from the overburden of the mine . Falun is primarily a service center these days. Tourism with its main attractions, the world cultural heritage site Falun and the mine at Falun, the home of the painter Carl Larsson in Sundborn and the Lugnet ski jumping center play an important role.
