history

The name of the village is derived from the word wójt (German Vogt ) because it belonged to the bailiffs of the city of Biecz. The place was first mentioned in 1363 as Woitowa , when the city of Biecz was granted Magdeburg law . Magdeburg law was also transferred to the village in 1379. The Roman Catholic parish was probably established in the second half of the 15th century, but was first mentioned in 1513.

The place initially belonged to the Kingdom of Poland (from 1569 aristocratic republic Poland-Lithuania ), Krakow Voivodeship , Biecz district . During the first partition of Poland in 1772, Wójtowa became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804). From 1855 Wójtowa belonged to the Gorlice District .

In the 19th century, oil was produced in Wójtowa. The first deep pump was built in 1864. In 1874 oil was produced from 112 wells. In 1907, however, the first signs appeared that the deposits were exhausted.

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Wójtowa came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II . From 1975 to 1998 Wójtowa belonged to the Krosno Voivodeship .
