The Wörgetal is a side valley of the Nedertal in the north-western Stubai Alps in the Austrian state of Tyrol in the municipality of Silz .

topography

The valley stretches from the Nedertal near Marail above a 300 meter high steep step three kilometers to the south. The valley floor rises from about 1900 meters in the area of the Ober-Iss-Alm over an approximately 100 meter high steep step at 2200 meters to the upper floors, which reach up to about 2400 meters above sea level. The highest and at the same time southernmost point in the valley border is the Wörgegratspitze ( 2722  m above sea level ). On the eastern side, the Wörgetal is delimited by the Schafzoll ( 2426  m above sea level ), Vorderer Karlesspitze ( 2569  m above sea level ) and Hinterer Karlesspitze ( 2636  m above sea level ) from the Mittertal , which lies to the east and south of the Wörgetal . South of the Hinteren Karlesspitze, the Wörgetalsattel provides a transition into the Mittertal. The western framing of the valley is formed in the north by the conical Zwölferköpfl ( 2229  m above sea level ), the Gaißschartlesgrat and the Wetterkreuzkogel ( 2591  m above sea level ) in the south. To the east, the Wetterkreuzkogel sends a rock spur into the Wörgetal, the Black Wall . In the valley there are several smaller lakes and lakes, among them the 80 by 50 meter large Puchersee ( 1987  m above sea level ), which is sometimes also referred to as the Pochersee , in the front valley area .

The punch mill was used to crush the ore

Mining

In the area of the Black Wall there was mining in the 15th and 16th centuries. They searched for copper and lead ores in the tunnels . The mineralization can be found concordantly in quartzites and gneisses , which were formed by a high-temperature metamorphosis . Ore minerals include pyrite , arsenic gravel , copper gravel , zinc blende , magnetic gravel , pale ore , galena and also gold . The ores were processed at the Puchersee in the front area of the valley. By 2005, there reconstructions of the already dilapidated processing plants, a screening and a Pochermühle and a were Knappenhaus built. Half of the Knappenhaus serves as a shelter for hikers and half as a small museum. The crushed ore was brought to Ambach in the Ötztal for smelting .

archeology

In 2010 and 2011 several excavations were carried out in the Wörgetal. The findings suggested human activity in the Wörgetal as early as the Late Bronze Age . An Iron Age building was discovered at 2170 meters above sea level ; according to the current state of research , it is said to be the highest structural structures of this time in North Tyrol .
