Wüstenstein is a district of the Wiesenttal community , a market in the Upper Franconian district of Forchheim . Wüstenstein was a separate municipality together with the districts of Draisendorf and Gößmannsberg and was incorporated into the Wiesenttal market in 1978 as part of the Bavarian municipal reform.

The small village has just under 200 inhabitants and is located in the Aufseßal between Streitberg and Breitenlesau . It is ten kilometers to the next larger city, Ebermannstadt , where the nearest public train station is located (regional transport Ebermannstadt – Forchheim).

Sights are the bell rock with illuminated cross, the Martinskirche and the Brandensteinhaus as one of the few relics of the former castle Wüstenstein of the von Aufseß . The desert stone castle was in the 18th century by the family von Brandenstein built using an older core. Wüstenstein is known for its winding town through state road 2186 .

There is a lively club life in Wüstenstein. In addition to the local fire brigade association, many residents of the Wüstenstein e. V., at the ski friends Wüstenstein e. V., active in the trombone and church choir or in the soldiers' comradeship Wüstenstein. The village youth uphold old customs such as the “Kerwasbaum” or the “ straw bear ” at the late church fair in November .
