Muggendorf and Streitberg form the core of the Wiesenttal market in Franconian Switzerland , in the Forchheim district .
geography
The village is at 304 m above sea level. NN at the Wiesent . Franconian Switzerland was also called Muggendorfer Gebürg after this place . There are numerous stalactite caves nearby, also known as Muggendorfer caves. These include a. the Rosenmüllerhöhle , the Oswaldhöhle , the Witzenhöhle , the Wundershöhle and the Doktorshöhle .
history
Muggendorf was first mentioned in a document around 1248/49 when Neideck Castle came about . To 1347, when Conrad II. Of key Berg died, the family of the holding Schlüsselberger right of patronage. In 1507 or 1508 Georg von Streitberg sold Muggendorf to Margrave Friedrich II of Brandenburg-Ansbach . As part of the later Principality of Bayreuth , Muggendorf became Protestant during the Reformation .
From 1922 Muggendorf was a station of the Wiesent Valley Railway . This allowed you to take the train to Forchheim via Ebermannstadt . Scheduled operations began in 1930, and the line was shut down in 1976. The Franconian Switzerland Steam Railway has been running the route as a museum train since 1980.
As part of the regional reform in Bavaria , Muggendorf was united with other villages on January 1, 1972 to form the Wiesenttal market .

Muggendorf has a primary school and a model railway museum (since 1994) with a focus on S gauge (companies BUB and Stadtilm) and 0 gauge (models from Bing, Kraus-Fandor , BUB, Heinrich Wimmer, Distler, Dressler, Beckh and Fleischmann).
Pumpkin parade
The so-called pumpkin parade, which takes place every year for Thanksgiving, is particularly worth seeing. In addition to the pageant at lunchtime, there is another, smaller parade after dark. The children of the village and the surrounding villages carry elaborately carved pumpkins through the village that are illuminated from the inside. The art of carving is part of the curriculum of the Wiesenttal elementary school.
