The 1925-26 season was the fifth and final regular season of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The champions became the Victoria Cougars .

Team changes

The following changes were made before the start of the season:

mode

In the regular season, the six teams played 30 games each. The three best-placed teams then played against each other in the playoffs, with the team with the better goal difference progressing from both games. First, the second placed against the third placed, then the winner of this duel competed against the first placed for the championship title and entry into the Stanley Cup Challenge. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a tie and zero points for a defeat.

Season course

The league changed its name from Western Canada Hockey League to Western Hockey League prior to the season. This took into account the inclusion of the American team Portland Rosebuds, which replaced the dissolved Regina Capitals. As in the previous year, the Victoria Cougars managed to win the WCHL championship and qualify for the Stanley Cup Challenge after finishing third in the regular season. First the Saskatoon Sheiks had been eliminated 4-3 in the semifinals and finally the Edmonton Eskimos with 5-3 goals in the final. For financial reasons, the league was dissolved after the season and the rights to all teams were sold to the National Hockey League , which remained as the only ice hockey major league two years earlier after the Pacific Coast Hockey Association had ceased to exist.
