The WZT-2 (from Polish W óz Z abezpieczenia T echnicznego ; in German armored recovery vehicle ) is a Polish armored recovery vehicle based on the chassis of the T-55 or T-55A and used by the Polish armed forces . It served as a mobile workshop and had the task of repairing or towing the broken down armored vehicles of the armored units.

Development history

The first Polish armored recovery vehicle, the WZT-1 , has been since 1970 when " Bumar Łabędy " in Gliwice ( Gleiwitz ) to 1978 based on the T-55 produced -Fahrgestells. From 1978 on, production was completely switched to the WZT-2, which was equipped with more modern mining technology than the previous version, which had been running parallel to WZT-1 production since 1973. The introduction of the technically more complex T-72 main battle tank into the army of the VR Poland required this step. More than 330 WZT-2s were delivered to the Polish army from 1973 to 1992, most of them between 1984 and 1988. A larger number were exported to India , Yugoslavia and Iraq or manufactured under license.

technology

The heart of the WZT-2 is its recovery equipment. This includes the crane arm, the clearing and support shield, the recovery and winch equipment as well as equipment for repair such as a cutting and welding system (electrical and gas welding equipment). A shaft placed on the commander's hatch makes it deep-wading and diving-capable. The hydraulic crane arm is attached to the front left of the chassis. The maximum hook load in the supported state and in the maximum increase is 20 tons. The main mechanical winch has a maximum pulling force of 750 kN. The clearing and support shield is primarily used as a support in crane operation and as an anchor in the ground during mining work, earth movements are possible to a limited extent. The tank has NBC protection and an automatic fire extinguishing system. The armament includes a 12.7 mm DSchK machine gun for self-defense against ground and air targets. In the interior there are three bunks on which three wounded can be transported lying down.
