The Wadi Igharghar or the Oued Irharrhar is a dry valley of the Sahara in southeastern Algeria .

Course and geomorphology

The valley begins on the north side of the main ridge line of the Ahaggar Mountains , on the eastern slope of the easternmost summit, which exceeds the 2500 meter mark. From here, the valley takes the path between the Irawen Mountains and the strata of the Tassili n'Ajjer in a general north direction and, after crossing the Tinrhert plateau, runs northwest of the oasis of Bordj Omar Driss in the sand of the Eastern Great Erg . Its course can still be followed hundreds of kilometers under the sand cover. In particular, a depression with a height of 95 meters above sea level 30 km south of the oasis town of Touggourt is associated with the Oued Irharrhar.

The wadi is shaped as a trough-like valley with a bed 10 to 15 km wide, on which surface types such as Reg or Serir and secondary relief types such as dune fields can be found due to secondary formation conditions. In contrast to the lower reaches, the valley character is retained here. Its active sections are in the Hoggar, the Tassilis at narrow points and on the plateau; the 200 km between these elevations are permanently dry.
