The Geroldsee (also Wagenbrüchsee ) is a moor lake approx. 500 m northeast of the Gerold district of the municipality of Krün in the Upper Bavarian district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen . It is located in the landscape protection area LSG-00281.03 on the southern edge of the Estergebirge about 9 km east of Garmisch-Partenkirchen . The lake is located at 927 m above sea level in the Wagenbrüch corridor , a depression between the Schartenkopf in the north and a cold-worm moraine in the south.
The inflow and outflow of water is a popular bathing lake with bathing areas on the north and south banks. There are hiking trails between the Geroldsee and the Barmsee , only 2 km further east , and the Grubsee , and in winter there are also groomed trails .
