history

Founded in April 1920, Waggeryds IK initially only played in the lower-class Swedish league area. In 1934 the team rose to the third division for the first time, in which they soon established themselves in the front division. At the end of the 1940/41 season she reached the relay win with two points ahead of IK Tord from Jönköping and reached the second division through successes in the subsequent promotion round. In Division 2 Västra , the club placed in front of Deje IK , Karlstads BIK and Skara IF in the first year and thus remained in the class. In the following year, however, the team finished last in the table with only one win of the season. After relegation from the second division, being bottom of the table, the direct fall into fourth division.

Waggeryds IK returned to the third division in 1952, where the team immediately settled in the front of the table. After a runner-up in 1954 behind Nybro IF , they benefited the following year from an increase in the second division, so that with the same result behind Husqvarna IF, the return to Division 2 succeeded. After a seventh place in the table in the first year, the club played in the season 1956/57 at times for promotion to the Allsvenskan . A little behind the Göteborg club Örgryte IS and IF Elfsborg from Borås , the club reached third place in the table. Although the second division, the team presented also in October in an international game of the Swedish national team against Denmark with Sven Eliasson , Göran Lindblad and Lennart Nilsson three national players. The success could not be confirmed, the team slipped in the following seasons in the lower part of the table. If it was initially enough to keep up, the club ended the season in 1960 despite scoring 51 goals this season in 22 games with one point behind Billingsfors IK and Fässbergs IF on a relegation zone.

Initially, Waggeryds IK played for resurgence, with the club sometimes just failing. In 1963, for example, Gnosjö IF prevailed with the better goal difference in a close duel . After another runner-up in the subsequent season, the club slipped increasingly in the league. In 1967 he was finally relegated to fourth class. After an upswing at the beginning of the 1970s, when the team sometimes only missed their return in the promotion round, the club crashed briefly in 1977 in the lower division.

After rising again in 1981 Waggeryds IK held a league reform in 1986 in the fourth division. In the following year, the team returned to the third level as the winner of Division 3 Nordöstra Götaland . Here the team played against relegation and saved themselves twice from relegation only because of the better goal difference. The 1991 season turned into a debacle. In the spring championship, after three wins and three draws, penultimate before Åtvidabergs FF , the team remained without points in the fall. As the bottom of the table with only six goals scored, the club entered the fourth division.

After relegation to the fifth division in 1994, Waggeryds IK said goodbye two years later with the move to the sixth division from the higher-class Swedish football.

The bandy team played in 1942 and 1963/64 for a season in the top division, but missed relegation.
