The Waldburger as Scheerer regents

The Truchsessen von Waldburg divided into three lines in 1429: the first into the Eberhardische ( Sonnenberger ), the second into the Jakobische ( Trauchburger ) and the third into the Georgian ( Zeiler ) line.

In 1452, Duke Sigismund of Tyrol sold his county and glory of Friedberg, including Scheer Castle and the town of Scheer and what went with them, namely the Bailiwick of Bussen and Dürmentingen (which was already owned by Eberhard) for 32,000 guilders in 1452 to Eberhard an "eternal and permanent" one. In 1463 the county of Sonnenberg , located in what is now Austria / Vorarlberger, was added. The Waldburger Truchsessen, regents of the County of Friedberg-Scheer, were in their possession until 1786, so 334 years!

The Eberhard line of the Waldburg family in Friedberg and Scheer

Count Eberhard I died in 1477. His wife was Kunigunde, daughter of Count Wilhelm von Montfort. The marriage gave birth to four sons: Otto, Eberhard, Johannes and Andreas . During his lifetime, Count Eberhard I. handed over the Friedberg-Scheer county to his son Andreas in 1475. Eberhard II received the Waldburg, Johannes, Wolfegg and Otto became Bishop of Constance and received his claims in money. In 1483 Eberhard II died childless.

In 1493 Count Andreas von Sonnenberg increased his estates considerably. He received the legacy of his late brother Eberhard II, the rule of Bussen including Munderkingen, Nusplingen and Kallenberg. From 1486 to 1509, Count Andreas rebuilt Scheer Castle and the church. He took up residence in Scheer. With the death of Truchsessen Johannes the Elder in 1510, Count Andreas had become a senior in the entire Waldburg house. On May 10, 1511, after a dispute with Count Felix von Werdenberg-Sigmaringen (Montfort), Count Andreas was murdered in Herbertinger Ried after a hunting trip. With his death, the Eberhard line of the Waldburger expired. His only daughter Sybilla was married to a descendant of the Jacobean line, Wilhelm Truchsess zu Waldburg-Trauchburg .

The older Jacobean line of the Waldburg family in Friedberg and Scheer

Truchsess Christoph from the Jacobean line of the Waldburg family, Count in Friedberg and Scheer, died in 1612. His government is described as the "tough one". His son Reichstruchsess Wilhelm Heinrich took over the inheritance and ruled until 1652, from 1628 as Reich Count. During this time he built the Loretto Chapel. Count Christoph Karl ruled from 1652 to 1672 and Count Franz Eusebius from 1672 to 1678. In 1678 Maximilian Wunibald came to power. It was the son of Count Otto, who died in 1663, who in turn was a son of Count Wilhelm Heinrich. Count Maximilian Wunibald died in 1717.

The younger Jacobean line of the Waldburg family in Friedberg and Scheer

Count Joseph Wilhelm Eusebius of the Trauchburg line followed Count Maximilian Wunibald, who died in 1717. He had the Gothic church redesigned in Baroque style and died in 1756. His only son, Count Leopold August, died childless in 1764. He was the last of the three lines in Scheer. Count Leopold August's widow, Countess Anna Maria Monica, who remained as the last princely resident of Scheer Palace, died on June 17, 1775. Inflation and the currency reform consumed the remaining assets.

In 1786 the purchase was approved by the emperor. Prince Karl Anselm von Thurn und Taxis was made imperial through the purchase and received a seat and vote in the Reichstag. In 1805 the sovereign rights fell to the Kingdom of Württemberg.
