Waldemar Kuri

Waldemar Kuri (born July 2, 1930 in Kehl ) is a German film director as well as music and television producer.

Act

After attending the humanistic grammar school in Freiburg im Breisgau from 1940 to 1949, Kuri studied from 1951 to 1954 at the Institut des hautes études cinématographiques (IDHEC) in Paris. There he worked on around 20 experimental films at the institute. At the same time he worked as a radio author for the SWR (including Der Bundschuh , 1951) and SDR (including Der Vormärz , 1952). He wrote radio plays, reports and audio images. Kuri has also worked for French Radio ( RTF ) and many of his contributions have dealt with French or Franco-German issues. He was involved in school and youth radio. After completing his studies, he worked as a journalist in Paris and also taught until 1957 as a lecturer for film dramaturgy and film analysis at the German Institute for Film and Television (DIFF) in Munich. He then moved permanently to Paris.

Kuri worked in Paris in the early 1960s as a representative of the Montana label for producer Hans R. Beierlein ; in addition, wrote scripts for films such as signals and play in colors during this time . He then made short films such as With Five Steps (1967), Border Without Shades, The Invisible Network and Stefan Zweig ; He made his feature film debut as a director with the television film Eine Räubergeschichte (1971), based on a novel by Karel Čapek , with actors such as Ulli Lommel , Richard Haller and Dinah Faust .

In the 1970s Kuri worked as a television producer; in Paris he managed the company WK productions , he also represented Hans R. Beierlein's publishing interests in France, he was also a close associate of Bernard Chevry (the founder of Midem ) and ZDF. In 1992 he realized the documentary series Nomaden auf dem Kaiserthron - In the footsteps of the Salians , with Hanns Joachim Friedrichs as speaker. His later directorial work also included Cézanne: Father of Modernity - a cinematic biography . He also produced the TV films Le chat botté (1986, directed by Dirk Sanders ) and La belle au bois dormant (1991, directed by José Montes-Baquer ).
