Waldo de Riva (born March 10, 1905 in Lugano ; † September 1, 1987 there ; entitled to live in Lugano) was a Swiss lawyer and politician ( KVP ). He was Swiss governor of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .

biography

Waldo Riva, son of the politician Antonio Riva , studied law at the universities of Munich , Rome and Bern , where he in 1928 with the Licentiate completed. In 1931 he was awarded a Dr. iur. PhD. In the same year he obtained the advocacy and notarial license . He worked as a lawyer and notary in Lugano. Riva has held various board memberships, such as for the Swiss branches of Alfa Romeo and Banco di Roma . He was a member of the Swiss UNESCO Commission. From 1949 to 1959 he was President of the Aero Club in Switzerland . Riva was Chief of Staff of Border Brigade 9 of the Swiss Army .

From 1953 to 1981 he was governor of the Swiss Lieutenancy of the Knightly Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem.

politics

Riva was a local councilor (1928–1958) and city ​​councilor (1958–1964) in his hometown of Lugano. From 1931 to 1963 he was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Ticino , which he chaired in 1959/60. He was also a member of the National Council from 1943 to 1947 and 1951 .

He was consul of the Federal Republic of Germany in the canton of Ticino.
