Valerian Ivanovich Kurdjumow ( Russian Валериан Иванович Курдюмов ; born October 12 . Jul / 24. October  1853 greg. In Tsarskoye Selo , † December 28, 1904 jul. / 10. January  1905 greg. ) Was a Russian traffic engineer and university professor .

Life

Kurdjumow came from an old noble family . He studied at the St. Petersburg Institute of Transport Engineers with a degree in 1878, whereupon he became an associate professor there. He wrote textbooks on perspective representation and on the foundation of buildings. Together with Ioakim Samuilowitsch Kannegiesser , he wrote a three-volume work on civil engineering work .

Kurdjumow invented a lamp with continuous release of magnesium flashes of light . He founded the Institute of Transport Engineers in 1891 and then headed the first Russian photography laboratory , where he worked with students.

Kurdjumow was buried in Tsarskoye Selo in the Kazan cemetery like his wife Sinaida Nikolajewna Kurdjumowa (1864-1892). Her son was the poet Vsevolod Valerinowitsch Kurdjumow (1892-1956).
