Valeryj Samodai ( Russian Валерий Самодай , English transcription : Valeriy Samoday, born May 4, 1991 in Sumy ) is a Russian - Ukrainian beach volleyball player .

Career

Samodai played in 2008 at the Youth World Cup in The Hague with Serhiy Popov and reached 19th place. In 2009 he completed his first two open tournaments on the FIVB World Tour with Oleksyj Kljamar in Mysłowice and Stare Jabłonki as well as two Masters. Then he went back to with Popow. The duo won the Youth World Cup in Alanya . At the U20 European Championship in Greece in 2009, Popov / Samodai were only defeated in the final. The U20 European Championship 2010 in Catania they finished in third place. After their first joint open tournament in Kristiansand , they finished 17th at the U23 European Championship in Kos . At the Junior World Championships in Alanya they did not get past 25th place. A year later they managed to win the next title at the U21 World Cup in Halifax by winning the final against the Poles Kantor / Łosiak . In 2012 they took part in a Grand Slam for the first time in Berlin . Then they became European champions of the U23 in Assen by again asserting themselves against Kantor / Łosiak in the final. At the World Championships for this age group in 2013 in Mysłowice they reached 17th place. They also took part in the World Championships in Stare Jabłonki .

After a long break, Samodai started in 2018 with Taras Myskiw for Russia. On the FIVB World Tour , Samodai / Myskiw won the 1-star tournaments in Ljubljana and Vaduz . At the 3-star tournament in Qinzhou they came second.

family

Valeryj Samodai is the son of the Soviet national volleyball player Valeryj Samodai senior. His sister Maryna is also a beach volleyball player.
