Microsemi ( NASDAQ : MSCC) is an American manufacturer of semiconductors based in California Aliso Viejo . It is listed on NASDAQ under the symbol MSCC.

history

The company was established in 1959 as Micro Semiconductor in Culver City ( California founded) by Arthur Feldon and Steve Manning. Ten years later, it merged with the investment firm Standard Resources Corporation .

Philip Frey Jr. joined Teledyne's semiconductor division in 1971 as CEO, a role he then held for 25 years. At the time, the company had sales of approximately $ 500,000, mostly arms products . In the following years, the military portion was reduced through diversification . With sales of around $ 150 million, it was around 30% in 1996.

The company's name was changed to Microsemi in 1983 .

In 1999 Microsemi took over the semiconductor manufacturer Linfinity Microelectronics , whose CEO Jim Peterson succeeded Frey as CEO at the end of 2000.

In November 2015, Microsemi acquired PMC-Sierra for US $ 2.5 billion .

In 2016, Microsemi presented the Ocelot, a SoC for network applications based on the MIPS architecture .

In March 2018, Microchip Technology announced its intention to acquire Microsemi for approximately $ 8.35 billion. The completion of the takeover was announced in May 2018.
