Wallace E. Oates

Wallace Eugene Oates (born March 21, 1937 in Los Angeles , California - † October 30, 2015 in Baltimore , Maryland ) was an American economist .

Life

Wallace Oates graduated from Stanford University and received a Ph.D. in economics. He first taught at Princeton University and moved to the University of Maryland, College Park in 1979 .

Oates is considered one of the co-founders of the theory of fiscal federalism . The decentralization theorem goes back to his book "Fiscal federalism" (1972). He also dealt in particular with topics of environmental economics .
