Waller is a district of the Middle Franconian municipality of Alfeld in the district of Nürnberger Land in Bavaria .

location

The church village with almost 30 inhabitants is located on the plateau of the Franconian Alb . The place forms its westernmost district. Waller is also ecclesiastically oriented towards Alfeld and belongs to the Protestant parish there.

Due to the relatively high location of around 570 meters, a closed snow cover very often forms in the area around Waller during the winter months. During this time, numerous cross-country ski trails are groomed, so that with Waller as the central location, a recreational winter sports area has emerged.

Attractions

Saint Margaret's Chapel

During the Middle Ages, a chapel dedicated to the early Christian martyr Margaret was built in Waller , which developed into a small place of pilgrimage. Immediately next to the chapel, a brother house was built, the walls of which today house the only restaurant in the village. After Waller became Protestant in the course of the Reformation as part of the Nuremberg countryside, the chapel gradually fell into disrepair from the first half of the 16th century. In 1717, a church was built again on the remains of the wall of the old chapel, but since it was a Protestant house, the chapel could not regain its old function as a place of pilgrimage. In this chapel there is a service five times a year, the rest of the time it is usually open to visitors.
