Walter Biel (born July 20, 1933 in Pfaffenhoffen , Lower Alsace) is a Swiss economist and politician ( LdU ).

Life

Biel studied economics in Basel and received his doctorate in 1959. From 1959 to 1979 he was the business editor at Tat ; from 1971 to 1977 he was editor-in-chief and chairman of the board of the Migros publishing and printing company .

Biel held leading positions at the Federation of Migros Cooperatives: from 1977 to 1991 he was director of economic policy and from 1987 to 1995 head of the main HR and training department . From 1967 to 1991 he was LdU Nationalrat (among other things from 1967 to 1973 and from 1979 to 1985 member of the finance, from 1986 to 1991 of the economic and from 1973 to 1990 of the cartel commission, from 1979 to 1982 president of the commission for review of national roads ). From 1978 to 1985 he was President of the LdU Switzerland.
