Monika Weber (born March 18, 1943 in Zurich ; resident in Zurich and Egg ) is a Swiss politician .

Life

Monika Weber dropped out of middle school for personal reasons half a year before graduation. She then worked as a secretary for a heating company. She made up her Matura at 27 and studied philosophy and political science. Immediately after completing her studies, she was asked by the consumer form. From 1978 to 1986 she chaired the consumer forum of German-speaking Switzerland (full-time until 1985). She became general secretary of the Swiss Commercial Association (SKV) in 1985. From 1992 to 1998 Monika Weber was director for economic policy and consumer issues at the Federation of Migros Cooperatives .

Political career

When Monika Weber was 20 years old, she joined the State Ring of Independents (LdU). She was politically inspired by  Gottlieb Duttweiler , the entrepreneur and Migros founder.

  • 1978–1986 President of the Swiss Consumer Forum
  • 1982–1987 National Councilor (LdU)
  • 1987–1998 Councilor of States of the Canton of Zurich (LdU)
  • 1998–2006 City Councilor of Zurich, Head of the School and Sports Department (LdU, independent from 1999)

In 1999 the state ring of the independents disbanded, and Monika Weber successfully competed as a non-party in 2002. In 2006 she did not stand for re-election and was replaced by Gerold Lauber (CVP).

Published works

With a view to the 100th birthday of Jeanne Hersch in 2010, Monika Weber was committed to the preparation and implementation of the festivities. In addition, together with Annemarie Pieper , she published a book with 20 lectures by Jeanne Hersch for the NZZ- Verlag in the same year, entitled "Jeanne Hersch - Experienced Time".

In addition, Monika Weber founded the Jeanne Hersch Society in 2009, which she still presides today.
