Walter C. Dowling

Walter Cecil Dowling (born August 4, 1905 in Atkinson , Georgia , † June 30, 1977 in Savannah , Georgia) was an American diplomat .

Life

In 1925 Dowling graduated from Mercer University with a BA and then worked in banking. In 1931 he attended the diplomatic school and entered the diplomatic service . From 1932 to 1936 his first position was that of Vice Consul in Oslo , after which he came to Lisbon . In 1938 he was transferred to the embassy in Rome , and in 1941 to Rio de Janeiro . In 1945 he returned to Rome as consul, and in the same year he came to the Southern Europe Department at the headquarters. In 1949 he became Legation Councilor in Vienna and the following year Deputy High Commissioner there . In 1953 he came to Bonn in the same position , and two years later he became Minister-Counselor . In 1956 he became ambassador to Seoul and from 1959 to 1963 in Germany.
