from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Walter Fuchs (born December 30, 1935 in Offenburg / Baden) is a German radio presenter and author in the field of country music .

Career

The graduate engineer for communications engineering initially wrote articles for Hillbilly magazine in the 1960s . His career as a radio presenter began in the first half of the 1970s in the third radio program of Südwestfunk Baden-Baden . The people in charge of the youth magazine Pop Shop had included a country program in the program, as this music could otherwise only be heard on AFN at that time . After the third broadcast, Walter Fuchs wrote a listener letter with praise to the SWF - but said that the station probably didn't have a large selection of this music genre in its archive. He would like to provide something as he has been collecting country music records for years. Frank Laufenberg then suggested that he host the country programs himself, which Fuchs then successfully practiced over many years with his in-depth knowledge of country. He also moderated country programs for various other radio stations , for example from 1991 to 2003 RPR 2 Country Time , or for Radio Victoria . From 2011 to 2013 he hosted the Hillbilly Gasthaus on Coolradio , and from 2014 to 2016 on 'PopStop - das Musikradio' the weekly program Americana Club . Since March 2017 he has been moderating the Country Club on Schwarzwaldradio .

In addition to his radio broadcasts, until 2015, Fuchs moderated events such as the International Bühler Bluegrass Festival in Bühl / Baden and held seminars on the subject of country music. He also wrote several specialist books, such as a Johnny Cash biography and The Great Book of Country Music . In 1974 Walter Fuchs, who maintains close ties to the US country scene, was made an honorary citizen of the US state of Tennessee by Governor Winfield Dunn .
