Walter Gotsmann

Walter Gotsmann (born January 8, 1891 in Granzow ; † July 18, 1961 in Neustrelitz ) was a German drawing teacher, painter and conservationist .

Life

Born in Granzow as the son of the teacher Wilhelm Gotsmann, Walter Gotsmann attended the Mirow teachers' seminar from Easter 1905 to Easter 1910 , where he trained as a primary school teacher. In 1910 he became a new teacher in Neucanow , later a teacher at the secondary school and at the Carolinum grammar school in Neustrelitz, and from 1922 he was a drawing teacher there. In 1931 Gotsmann passed the state examination as a drawing teacher for secondary schools and was appointed lecturer for art history at the Neustrelitz adult education center during the Second World War .

Walter Gotsmann was appointed honorary district commissioner for nature conservation in 1947.

In recognition of the services of Walter Gotsmann, the city of Neubrandenburg has named a street Walter-Gotsmann-Weg. The town of Mirow, district of Granzow, has a street called Walter-Gotsmann-Straße. There is a Walter Gotsmann stone on the Hellbergen near Wendfeld. There is a Walter Gotsmann nature trail in Serrahn. Walter Gotsmann's children have transferred his entire artistic and written estate to the city of Neustrelitz, which has been kept and cared for in the Karbe-Wagner Archive (KWA) and in the museum and since 2016 in the Kulturquartier.
