Walter Greinert

Walter Greinert (born January 14, 1940 in Scheibbs ) is an Austrian journalist , diplomat and author.

Life

Greinert studied and obtained a doctorate in law . He became editor of the daily newspaper Die Presse , then head of the service and commentator for international relations on ORF radio.

In 1973 he switched to the diplomatic service. He became press attaché in Paris and Washington, then press chief and spokesman for the foreign ministry, consul general in New York and finally Austrian ambassador to the Holy See from 2001 until his retirement .

Greinert is a Grand Officer of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem . He is the contact person of the Catholic Action in the Austrian coordination committee for Christian-Jewish cooperation.

In addition to essays , he published the volumes of poetry Nur ein Windhauch (2009) and Into the Silence (2017).
