Career

Grubmüller began his motorsport career like most racing drivers in kart racing , which he practiced from 2000 to 2004. In 2004 he also made his first experience in formula racing in the Formula Renault Monza. In 2005 he first competed in the Toyota Racing Series and was 18th in the drivers' championship. He then took part in the Italian Formula Renault and the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocuppart. While he was 27th in the Italian Formula Renault, he remained without points in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup. He also took part in the winter series of the Italian Formula Renault. In 2006 he stayed in the two Formula Renault championships. In the Italian Formula Renault he improved to 19th and in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup to 20th overall. He also took part in races in the Asian Formula 3 championship .

In 2007, Grubmüller's main focus was on the British Formula 3 championship , in which he competed for Hitech Racing , in which his father Walter was involved. While his teammate Marko Asmer won the championship, he was 16th in the overall classification. He also took part in races in the Australian and Asian Formula 3 championships. In 2008, Grubmüller stayed with Hitech Racing in the British Formula 3 Championship and became a team-mate of Max Chilton . Although he did not manage to keep up with Chilton, he improved to 14th place overall. In 2009 he played his third season in the British Formula 3 Championship for Hitech Racing and he achieved his breakthrough in this championship. With two victories he won the runner-up title behind Daniel Ricciardo . The second place was favored by the departure of his team-mate Renger van der Zande , who had occupied second place until the last race weekend.

In 2010 Grubmüller switched to Formula Renault 3.5 . He started for P1 Motorsport , which, like Hitech Racing, was bought by his father Walter and became a teammate of Jan Charouz . With a fourth place as the best result, he finished 16th overall. In addition, Grubmüller started the Auto GP for Charouz-Gravity Racing in the first half of the 2010 season and achieved 19th place in the drivers' championship. In 2011 , Grubmüller contested his second season in the Formula Renault 3.5 as a team-mate of Daniil Move for P1 Motorsport. In qualifying for the second race at the Nürburgring , Grubmüller suffered a fracture of the fifth thoracic vertebra in an accident. In a collision with Charouz, his racing car got on and hit the asphalt. The chassis broke. As a result, he had to take a break for a racing weekend. With 24 to 54 points Grubmüller was defeated by his teammate Mowe and finished the season in 18th place in the drivers' championship. In 2012 Grubmüller again formed the P1 driver duo together with Mowe in the Formula Renault 3.5. Grubmüller achieved the best season position for P1 with a second place. As 14th overall, he prevailed internally against Mowe, who was 17th.
