Walter Harlan

Walter Harlan (born December 25, 1867 in Dresden , † April 14, 1931 in Berlin ) was a German writer and dramaturge . Originally a lawyer (Dr. iur.), He worked, among other things, at the Berlin Lessing Theater .

Walter Harlan is the son of the banker and farmer Otto Harlan , as well as Bertha Elisa Harlan (née Bienert, daughter of the industrialist Gottlieb Traugott Bienert ). He was born with Adele Boothby married and is considered the founder of the Harlan family of artists ; Of the seven children, the musician Peter Harlan and the director Veit Harlan deserve special mention.

His story Die Kindsmagd was filmed in 1936 as Maria, die Magd , his tragedy Das Nürnbergisch Ei in 1939 in a heavily modified form under the title Das immortliche Herz . Both films were directed by Veit Harlan.

Walter Harlan suffered a heart attack on April 14, 1931 at the age of 63, during a meeting of the Association of German Stage Writers and Stage Composers, in which he had worked for many years. He was buried on April 18, 1931 in the Heerstraße cemetery in today's Berlin-Westend district . The grave has not been preserved.
