Walter König (born January 13, 1908 in Zurich , † February 20, 1985 in Zollikon , reformed , entitled to live in Küsnacht , Zurich and Glarus ) was a Swiss politician (LdU) .

biography

Walter König was born on January 13, 1908 in Zurich as the son of master butcher Johann Jakob König and Emma Anna, born Meister. Walter König studied law at the University of Zurich between 1926 and 1931 , which he completed in 1933 with the academic degree of Dr. iur. completed.

Subsequently he worked as a lawyer in Uster from 1934 to 1937 . Immediately afterwards he was employed as a district attorney until 1942, then as a district judge in Zurich until 1945 and finally as chief judge until 1951. Most recently, after leaving the government in 1971, he again headed a law firm.

He was also represented on the central board of SRG SSR idée suisse and acted as president of the intercantonal state lottery and the Swiss number lottery. In the Swiss Army , König served with the rank of lieutenant colonel .

Walter König married Vroni, the daughter of the Winterthur electrician Emil Leemann, in 1938 . He died on February 20, 1985, one month after turning 77 in Zollikon.

Political offices

Walter König, a member of the Landesring der Independencies, initially served as a councilor in Zurich from 1938 to 1942 . In 1951 he was elected to the Zurich government council, of which he was a member until 1971. There he was first in charge of the police and military, from 1959 of the education department. He also represented the canton from 1951 to 1955 and 1959 to 1979 in the National Council .

Walter König expanded all school levels in the canton through expansions and new foundations, modernized the educational system, such as the cantonal maturity school for adults, and adapted teacher training to the new requirements.
