Walter Klaas (born October 18, 1904 in Wiesbaden ; † July 19, 1961 in Wuppertal-Barmen ) was a Protestant pastor and professor for the history of dogma and theology.

Life

From 1932 to 1951, Klaas was in charge of the rectory in Driedorf im Westerwald , during the years of National Socialism as a dedicated representative of the Confessing Church . He was then appointed to the Wuppertal Church University as a lecturer in the history of dogma and theology . Since he did not have a doctorate at the time, the position had to be approved every year by the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs and the Hesse-Nassau Church , which released him from teaching and paid a pastor's salary plus lecturer allowance. In 1954, the doctorate supervised by Hans Joachim Iwand on topicality and problems of the theology of Adolf von Harnack took place .

In 1956, Klaas was appointed professor without a habilitation. In the same year - also to make the appointment as professor possible - the college gave him the rectorate of the church university, which he was unable to exercise due to serious illness.

Since July 31, 1948, Klaas was privately with Elisabeth born. Zurheide married. The marriage had three sons.
