Walter Klestadt

Walter Dagobert Klestadt (born February 26, 1883 in Bernburg , † January 20, 1985 in Fall River , Bristol County , Massachusetts ) was a German-American ENT doctor .

Life

The from Bernburg an der Saale native Walter Klestadt, a member of the Jewish community , turned to the High School to study medicine at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich to which he in 1906 with the promotion of Dr. med. completed. After the following years as an assistant doctor, he completed his specialist training as an ENT doctor.

After Klestadt had taken part in the First World War on the German side in the rank of captain , he completed his habilitation in 1919 as a private lecturer in the subject of ear. Nasal and larynx medicine at the University of Wroclaw . As a senior physician at the University Clinic for Ear. Walter Klestadt, who used nose and larynx diseases, received the title of non-civil servant extraordinary professor in 1922 , and in 1935 he was appointed full professor . In addition, he worked as a lecturer at the Academy for Medical Training and Social Medicine in Magdeburg from 1930 to 1933 .

After Walter Klestadt was dismissed from university in 1938 because of his Jewish origins, he emigrated to the USA. He settled in Fall River , Massachusetts , where he opened an ENT practice. In 1945 he was granted US citizenship, and in 1951 he was officially retired . Walter Klestadt died in Fall River in January 1985, one month before the age of 102. He found his final resting place in the Beech Grove Cemetery in Westport, Massachusetts.

Klestadt, who was elected a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology, stood out in particular for his contributions to his field. The Klestadt cysts, which are malformation-related mucus-filled cysts in the hard palate , are named after him.
