Walter Kruse (artist)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Walter Kruse (born October 27, 1912 in Herford ; † April 19, 1999 in Sundern ) was a German sculptor who lived in Bochum for a long time .

Act

Kruse studied sculpture in Munich. A residence around 1938 at Schleißheimer Strasse 124 is documented.

In addition to his work as an artist, he later worked as an art teacher at the Jacob-Mayer-Realschule , later at the Annette-von-Droste-Hülshoff-Schule. Until Pentecost 1975 he had a studio in an old colliery hall on the Constantin site on Herner Straße in Bochum, which was destroyed three times, whereupon he desperately made the decision not to work as an artist in Bochum anymore and to work a substantial part of his work in the Self-destructed works in the studio. He stayed in Flottmannstrasse at least until his retirement in 1977 and then moved to Sundern. Some of his works were commissioned from his native town, including a bust of Otto Weddigen , which was to find its place in the Herford Local History Museum.

Exhibitions

Kruse took part in the Great German Art Exhibition in 1939 (portrait of Josef Stolzing-Cerny ), 1940 (portrait of Franz Dannehl ) and 1944 (portrait of Georg Hann ) . In 1952 he had the exhibition "Iron and Steel" in Dresden. In 1963 he exhibited again in the Haus der Kunst (“The Blind Man”) as part of the Great Art Exhibition, and in 1997 a figurative sculpture of him was on display in the Lenbachhaus in Munich .

Art in public space

Well-known reconstruction works in public space are the Wittekindbrunnen in Herford (1959) and the cowherd monument in Bochum (1962).

In Bochum, works that have been preserved in public space include the reliefs on the mourning hall of the flower cemetery (1957) and a concrete sculpture in front of the “rainbow school” (Preins Feld 3 primary school; 1967–68).
