Walter Moehrs

Walter Moehrs (born March 5, 1886 in Königsberg ( East Prussia ), † 1978 ) was a German lawyer . He was president of the higher regional courts in Königsberg and Frankfurt am Main.

Career

After graduating from high school, Moehrs studied law in his hometown. In 1908 he passed the legal traineeship examination “with distinctions”. After the assessor exam in Berlin in 1913, he worked as a probationary judge. On August 1, 1915, he became a district judge in Ragnit , but because of the war he was only able to take up the position in 1919. In 1921 he became district judge in Tilsit and in 1923 assistant judge at the higher regional court in Königsberg . A request to take over as a higher regional judge was not granted because Moers appeared too young. In 1925 he was seconded to the Ministry of Justice, appointed Ministerialrat in June 1929 and, with effect from November 27, 1931, President of the Königsberg Higher Regional Court. As a member of the Social Democratic Party and the Republican Judges Association he lost after the seizure of power of the Nazis in April 1933, the President office in Konigsberg, but he was by the State Secretary in the Prussian Ministry of Justice Freisler Roland a Senate President office in Frankfurt offered the Moehrs on 1 July 1933 started. Later Moehrs was seconded to the public prosecutor's office.

After the Second World War , he became the first President of the Higher Regional Court on March 8, 1946 when the Higher Regional Court of Frankfurt am Main was established . He was sworn in by the head of the American military government in Greater Hesse , Colonel James R. Newman . Moehrs held office until 1948. Philipp Daltrop was his successor . He was married to Elke Moehrs (née Wolff) since 1915.
