Walter Nowothnig

Walter Nowothnig (* 1903 in Nowawes ; † August 7, 1971 in Hanover ) was a German prehistorian , curator and author .

Life

Walther Nowothnig attended the University of Halle , where he wrote his first dissertation in 1932 and then worked there as a research assistant at the State Institute for Prehistory . He then worked in 1936 in Breslau as a research assistant for the State Office for Prehistory, then in 1937 as a research assistant, while in the same year he did his dissertation The Schönfeld Group . Its essence as a separation of the Saxon-Thuringian corded ceramics and their distribution published and the title Dr. phil. got awarded. In 1938 Nowothnig worked as a curator at the Wroclaw State Office.

After the Second World War , Walter Nowothnig carried out several archaeological excavations on and on the Wurmberg from Braunlage in the Upper Harz between 1949 and 1956 , during which, among other things, the Steinerne Weg was rediscovered. In the meantime, he had been employed as an employee of the Lower Saxony State Museum from 1953 . In 1970 he was one of the founding members of the Archaeological Commission for Lower Saxony .
