Walter Rempe

Walter Rempe (born March 19, 1934 in Düsseldorf ; † April 22, 1993 ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

Walter Rempe first completed an apprenticeship as a lathe operator before he attended evening grammar school and passed the Abitur examination there in 1958. He then took up studies in history and English at the University of Cologne , which he completed with the 1st and 2nd state exams. In 1975 he took over the management of the Cologne College , an institute for university entrance qualification. He held this post until 1990, most recently as senior director of studies .

From 1973 Rempe was a member of the administrative board of Stadtsparkasse Köln, from which he resigned as deputy chairman in 1989. He then chaired the community of organizers for local radio in the city of Cologne.

Rempe died in 1993 at the age of 59. His grave is located in Cologne's southern cemetery .

Walter Rempe joined the SPD in 1962 and was elected to the executive committee of the Cologne party sub-district in 1968. From 1969 he was a member of the Cologne City Council, where he remained until 1989; In 1980 he became vice chairman of the parliamentary group there.

In 1990 his party finally put him up as a direct candidate for the Cologne I constituency , where he succeeded former Federal Minister Hans-Jürgen Wischnewski . He was elected to the Bundestag with 45.2 percent of the first votes , but died before the end of the legislative period on April 22, 1993. His successor in the Bundestag was Hans-Peter Kemper .
