Walter Schachinger

Walter Schachinger (born February 26, 1883 in Munich ; † March 28, 1962 there ) was a German painter .

Life

Walter Gabriel Ignaz Schachinger was born on February 26, 1883 as the son of the flower and portrait painter Gabriel Schachinger in Munich. From a young age he painted under the guidance of Wilhelm Leibl , with whom his father shared a studio. At the age of 17 he entered the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where he was a student of Rudolf von Seitz , Hugo von Habermann and Wilhelm von Diez . Like his father, Walter Schachinger showed a special talent for portrait painting and created portraits of prominent artists such as Enrico Caruso and Elly Ney . He also painted still lifes , flowers, landscapes and architecture. He was a member of the artist society Allotria and was represented at art exhibitions in the Haus der Kunst until 1945; In 1920 he took part in a special exhibition in Amsterdam.

In addition, Walter Schachinger devoted himself to music with great commitment. He studied conducting with Kapellmeister Adolf Vogel and founded a chamber orchestra in Munich in 1923 , which he directed for 15 years. In 1927 he was appointed musical director of the Munich local group by the Salzburg Mozart Community of the international “Mozarteum” foundation, and until 1942 he directed their public concerts.

Walter Schachinger was married to the painter and metalworker Elisabeth Schachinger . Their daughter Rosemarie (* 1935) is a ceramist and painter.
