Rudolf (von) Seitz (born June 15, 1842 in Munich ; † June 18, 1910 there ) was a German painter , draftsman and craftsman .

Life

Seitz was a student of his father, the decorative painter and illustrator Franz von Seitz . His mother was Wilhelmine Koeniger. After training with his father, he entered the Piloty's school . He began with genre paintings ( Peter Vischer shows the customer the completed Sebaldus tomb , Noble Passions ) and then turned his activity preferably to illustration, applied arts and decorative painting.

Among other things, he provided the rococo-style ornamental frames and print decorations for a splendid edition of Schiller's Glocke and Goethe's Faust , the illustrations of which are by Liezen-Mayer. He preferred the style of the German late Renaissance and Rococo. In his decorative paintings (in the Kunstgewerbemuseum and on the facades of Munich inns), a certain mannerism was evident. In 1883 he became curator of the National Museum in Munich.

In 1888 he became a professor at the Munich Art Academy . In 1900 Seitz was ennobled. Among his students were Franz Xaver Dietrich and Richard Throll .

He married Carolina Paulina Marotte de Montigny (* 1844) at Kloster Seeon in 1869 . This came from a Belgian aristocratic family who, together with their father Karl Marotte de Montigny, were accepted into the Bavarian baron class in 1842. Rudolf von Seitz had a son named Hans.
